United States to Expand Cooperation on Strategic and Graphite Minerals Exploration

Tanzania and the United States are expanding mining cooperation, focusing on graphite and strategic minerals. The partnership will deploy United States technology and expertise in collaboration with Tanzania’s government-owned mining company STAMICO and the Geological Survey of Tanzania GTS to strengthen exploration, data management, and governance.

The discussions took place on January 21, 2025, in Dodoma, during a meeting between the Minister of Minerals, Anthony Mavunde, and a United States delegation led by Acting United States Ambassador to Tanzania Andrew Lentz. The cooperation is being implemented through the United States Department of State Energy and Mineral Governance Program and is aimed at enhancing Tanzania’s national capacity in mineral exploration and overall mining sector management.
