Only 550,000 of Tanzania’s 26 million jobs offer decent pay, a written contract, social security, and stable employment, with just 120,000 in the formal private sector, according to the latest World Bank Tanzania Economic Update, despite real GDP growth of 5.9% in 2025 and a projected 6.1% in 2026. The TEU is a biannual report analyzing recent economic developments. The latest report examines how Tanzania can translate sustained economic growth into productive, better-paying, and more secure jobs.
