Tanzania, through ALAF has launched a new color coating line in Dar es Salaam with a 75,000-ton annual capacity to strengthen local manufacturing, reduce steel imports, and increase exports to regional markets.
On 3rd June 2025, Tanzania’s ALAF Limited launched a new industrial Color Coating Line (CCL) in Dar es Salaam to boost domestic steel production and reduce reliance on imports. With an annual capacity of 75,000 tons, the new CCL is expected to boost local manufacturing by reducing reliance on imported pre-painted steel coils and increasing the availability of high-quality coated iron sheets produced domestically.
The products will not only serve Tanzania’s construction market but will also be exported to regional markets across East and Southern Africa. Speaking at the event, Tanzania’s Minister for Industry and Trade, Hon. Dr. Seleman S. Jafo, emphasized that the launch of the plant aligns with Tanzania’s broader agenda of industrialization, job creation, and economic diversification. He emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that substandard imported products do not hinder the growth of local industries.
The launch of the new CCL aligns with Tanzania’s Third Five-Year Development Plan (FYDP III) 2021/22–2025/26, which emphasizes industrialization as a key driver for economic growth and job creation. The plan aims to enhance the country’s competitiveness by increasing efficiency and productivity in manufacturing, utilizing abundant local resources, and strengthening the industrial economy as a basis for export-driven growth.
