In a groundbreaking move to make Tanzania more business-friendly, the government has eliminated 39 levies that were previously burdening investors. The reform, part of the 2024/25 national budget, primarily targets the agricultural, manufacturing, and tourism sectors, three of the country’s biggest job creators.
By removing these levies, the government aims to reduce operational costs for both local and foreign enterprises. Agricultural producers, for instance, will now benefit from lower costs on transportation and produce handling, which is expected to enhance competitiveness in export markets. Business associations have praised the decision, calling it a critical step toward unlocking Tanzania’s full economic potential.
