About UDSM
The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) (Swahili: Chuo Kikuu cha Dar es Salaam) is a public university located in Ubungo District, Dar es Salaam Region, Tanzania. It was established in 1961 as an affiliate college of the University of London. The university became an affiliate of the University of East Africa (UEA) in 1963, shortly after Tanzania gained its independence from the United Kingdom. In 1970, UEA split into three independent universities: Makerere University in Uganda, the University of Nairobi in Kenya, and the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania abbrivated as UDSM.
Duties and Responsibilities
- To carry out lectures, seminars, tutorials and practical for undergraduate programmes;
- To set, invigilate and mark undergraduate examinations;
- To assist senior staff in lectures, seminars, tutorials and practical for postgraduate programmes;
- To supervise projects and practical training for undergraduate students;
- To conduct research and publish results;
- To carry out consultancy and public services;
- To undergo postgraduate training to PhD level;
- To participate in relevant workshops and conferences; and
- To perform any other relevant duties as assigned by one’s superior.
Qualifications
Holder of Master’s degree in any of the following; Communication Studies, Mass Communication, Language Education, Language Studies, and Linguistics; and a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies, Mass Communication, Language Studies, Bachelor of Arts with Education (Major in Language or Linguistics) and Bachelor of Education (Major in Language or Linguistics). Applicants for this post must possess a minimum GPA of 4.0 or a B+ average at the Master’s degree level and an undergraduate degree with a minimum GPA of 3.8 from a local or an internationally, reputable University recognized by the Tanzania Commission for Universities.
